I am thrilled to be hosting a wonderful creative workshop in Ballynahinch Castle this November 17th & 18th. A three day residential workshop with two days full of learning new florist skill & learning how to create your own unique & beautiful Christmas Decorations. Imagine styling your own home every year with your creations.
The Christmas Creative Workshop at Ballynahinch Castle Hotel is designed for all lovers of creativity and nature, and anyone who wants to surround themselves with a truly festive Christmas! Whether you are a keen amateur florist or simply someone passionate about creating elegant festive designs and arrangements for your own home or those of your friends and family, this three-night, two-day workshop in gorgeous Ballynahinch Castle Hotel is led by florist Ann Marie O'Leary.
Much of the inspiration for each guest's festive designs will be found from the surrounding environment, as each morning after breakfast the class will explore the beautiful, wild Connemara grounds of Ballynahinch Castle to forage and gather foliage, berries & wild bounty to incorporate into their designs.
Each day of the Christmas workshop has two distinct elements – firstly understanding the principles and skills necessary for a particular floral design, followed by hands-on lessons in styling & designing your own festive arrangements. Each attendee will design and take home their own arrangements. At the closing of each wonderful day all attendees shall style the dining table where everyone will gather together & chat about the days adventures.
Attendees will leave with not only a sense of confidence when it comes to creating beautiful festive arrangements - but also with a new groups of friends .
Beginning with check-in at your leisure on Monday 16th November, the funbegins after breakfast on Tuesday morning, with foraging for beautiful wild foliage, followed by a gentle introduction to the floristry skills necessary to create your stunning decorations. After a leisurely lunch there are demonstrations in wreath and door swag design, followed by a creative class with each student designing and making their own arrangement, with one to one tuition as required. At 5 pm it's time to style the long table in the Fisherman’s Pub at Ballynahinch for that evening's dining -promptly followed with time to relax, draw a bath.
The focus on Wednesday 18th November moves to the Christmas tree, with a master class in tree styling. After lunch there is a demonstration of garland design with all students then making their own, again with one to one tuition as needed, followed by the collective design and installation of that evening’s tablescape before dinner.
There is tea, coffee & refreshments available at all times, and excellent food included throughout at Ballynahinch, from hearty breakfasts to leisurely lunches and delicious evening meals.
All workshop fees are €1500 per person sharing, or €1620 per single room. This includes all accommodation, meals, all ingredients necessary for creating your beautiful Christmas arrangements.
Each attendee will be provided with a welcome gift - a journal for jotting down notes & thoughts, a festive decoration and bauble kit to add sparkle to arrangements, and a beautiful foraging basket. An apron and all floristry tools & sundries will be provided for you during the workshop.
“Ballynahinch Castle is a very special place,” says Ann Marie, “and the woods and grounds are magical & softly wild, full of beautiful bounty for all foragers - leaves, berries and lichens. I’m looking forward to working with a wonderful group of people & creating stunning seasonal designs. For me - the true joy of each workshop is seeing the an attendees face light up with pride when they realise - they have created a thing of beauty’. As a place to host a creative gathering like this, Ballynahinch is perfect – a warm & cosy ambiance, with wonderful crackling log fires warming the hearts of all chilly guests upon arrival. Ballynahinch is a rare & beautiful place and an inspirational backdrop to decorative work.”
